Country Pursuits Sites of interest
The monument that is most representative of Montánchez
is its Castle, which is found on a hill, in a place that has considerable
strategic importance. This originally Almohad
castle in a faithful exponent of architecture from the Reconquest
during the Middle Ages.
Apart from its castle Montánchez has many
typical sites scattered around the town; like the Muslim district known as
the "el Canchalejo", as well as certain
noble houses, hermitages, etc.
What also stand out are the ancient walls of the old town “Villa Vieja”
that probably date from the 12th century and that appear to have
been built on top of a previous Muslim construction.
